Row80: When Life Gets in the Way – Push It Aside

I thought life was supposed to get more simplistic as age came along… no? Not in my life.  I am sure there is still hope.

I digress.

My life is more amazing these days than it was this time last year and the year before that, and so on.  Who knows what is in store?  Only God knows.

Exciting.

In writing news, I started back up with my Friday Flash Fiction segments.  I posted the first one last Friday.  It kind of pales in comparison to some of my earlier work, but it turned out just the way I hoped.  If you want to check it out, you can do so by clicking here.

In sobriety news, I will be hooking back up with my sponsor at some point this week.  I hit a meeting last week and will hit one this week. My six-year anniversary is in two weeks.

In life news, I am really doing some soul-searching as to what this life holds for me and where I can tweak it to maximize my usefulness and potential.

I am faced with interesting dilemmas and decisions as far as living arrangements and mental health.  Funny how the two seem to be coinciding.

I was excited to finally get back into editing my WIP today.  I had the whole day to myself, Saturday!  It was great.

So… for this week:

  • continue to edit WIP.
  • walk 20-30 minutes a day.
  • get to an al-anon meeting.
  • continue to look for a reasonably priced car (my car is dying).
  • journal, journal, journal.  I have been doing this a lot and it is really helping me find out about who I am and what I want.

I hope everyone had a great week and that this coming week will be even better than the last.

  1. Great week Darlene. You are doing great, I know how hard it can be to juggle so many things. Congratulations on 6 years sober! :D xx

  2. Glad to hear you’re getting back into the swing of things. I’ve missed seeing your posts.

  3. good week – i know the feeling about car – no money in the coffers so will have to begin tying on bits :) – your’e doing well there girl – keep smiling

  4. so many excellent comments you should take great pride from them and in urself

  5. A car? Thought you were only a biker babe? But I guess kids and life sometimes require a bit more in transportation. I drive less now that I’m downtown, but not ready to give up my own car yet. We have timeshare cars here, pay a fee then reserve one near you online. Cheaper rate than regular rental.
I have a garage I’ve gone to for years, asked them for what was good, as in reliable, in the type I was looking at – Mazda was their pick for me. Even checked it out for free for me before I bought.
Be nice if there was something like that for relationships – bring a potential partner in for a checkout, up othe hoist, then a yes/no. And ongoing, drop him/her off for the occasional adjustment or tuneup. Or eventual recommendation of a write-off. Who knows someone might have the time and energy to pick it up as a fixer upper.
Hmm -might be a story here.

  6. You are inspirational – my dad could never deal with his addictions and only tried to do so a couple of times over a 40 time span to my knowledge. Six years is really something to celebrate – and something to feel really good about. I’m thrilled for you and the progress you’re making. And its great to hear you’re getting back into your MS re editing. I’m spasmodically getting there – slowly. *sigh* .X

  7. Just a warm hug from the cyberZ waiting here for you. :-)

  8. And life is always in the way. Good advice, and more power to you.

  9. Well done on your progress Darlene! My best friend goes to Al-Anon too!

  10. its always great to here posotive comments,so well done darlene i know how difficult it is to fight the addiction-alcohol-so brilliant and keep focussed
